The Dienas bizness newspaper published an article “The Ministry of Finance: Hong Kong will remain offshore”, in which, referring to the Ministry of Finance (MoF) letter to BDO Zelmenis&Liberte partner Janis Zelmenis , there is informed that Hong Kong will remain in the so-called offshore list. MoF indicates that Hong Kong is included in the offshore list, taking into account the peculiarities of its tax system. “It is absurd that Hong Kong listed 11^th in the World Economic Forum competitiveness ranking is considered as offshore by Latvia that is 64^th in this rating,” said J. Zelmenis. MoF reply raised his doubts about whether Latvia has criteria to identify offshore areas. “According to criteria mentioned in the reply, Latvia in general is a real offshore,” said BDO Zelmenis&Liberte partner.
